Nina Schroder, MSW, LCSW, is the Founder of Digital Age Wellness. As a speaker and consultant on resilience and mindful screen use for nearly a decade, Nina seeks to empower individuals, families, communities, and organizations to cultivate a resilience-based mindset and approach to screen use and well-being using a framework and practical strategies that draw upon her research efforts, professional experience, and personal experience navigating screen use for many years with her two sons, who are now teenagers.
Nina has been a licensed mental health professional for over 20 years, with first-hand experience counseling Digital Age college students at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
in a historic mental health crisis.
Since 2016, in response to troubling mental health trends among young people and her concerns as a parent, Nina has been researching the cognitive, social, and emotional impact of high screen use, as well as key factors of resilience that promote well-being, and personal success.
During her time at VCU, Nina used her research and insights to help foster resilience and mindful screen use in students through her counseling work and as a regular guest lecturer for the Science of Happiness course and LEAD program. Nina also helped to raise awareness more broadly as a member of the NCAA Task Force to Advance Mental Health Best Practices.
Additionally, through educational events and community collaboration, Nina inspired collective action among families in her sons’ school to delay smartphone adoption and minimize overall screen use to protect and promote healthy development and flourishing among students and families.
Over the course of her career, Nina's efforts to apply evidence-based research to advance clinical practice have been recognized with awards by the University of Maryland Medical Center's Department of Social Work, the Society for Transplant Social Workers, and the Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, Nina is a current member of Fairplay’s Screen Time Action Network.
Nina received her Bachelor of Arts in English, with a minor in Business from Villanova University, where she was a scholarship athlete for the Women's Field Hockey Team. She received her Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland.
Residing in Richmond, VA with her husband and teenage sons, Nina speaks locally and nationally about mindful screen use, emotional resilience, and well-being, as well as the value of collection action in reshaping social norms related to screen use. Her impactful programs appeal to a wide range of audiences including university students, staff and faculty, professional organizations, school communities, parent organizations, faith communities, and sports teams.
Nina seeks to equip individuals with a resilience-based mindset and practical strategies necessary to reclaim time and attention, practice mindful screen use, and promote well-being in a complex and dynamic digital world.
